Founded in 1769, Dartmouth College is an Ivy League institution located in Hanover, New Hampshire. In BCC, we always welcome cross-school socials and communication. Once sophomore year was over, I decided to visit one of my good friends there to celebrate Green Key — Dartmouth’s version of our Spring Weekend. Let's dive into it:
After taking the commuter rail up to Boston South Station, I hopped on the Dartmouth Coach for a three-hour trip to the middle of the woods.
Although I was only there for a few days, here are some of my takeaways! Dartmouth is known for its strong sense of community, small class sizes, and beautiful rural campus. Students appreciate the close relationships they build with professors due to the focus on undergraduate education. Indeed, there are twice as many undergraduates as graduate students.
The D-Plan, Dartmouth's flexible academic calendar, offers freedom in scheduling but can sometimes disrupt campus social life. For instance, my friend decided to take spring quarter off to work at Capitol Hill, wrapping up his school year through “Sophomore Summer” during which students stay on campus to take classes while bonding outside the classroom.
Speaking of, the school has a robust outdoor culture, thanks to its location in New Hampshire. Hiking, swimming, and kayaking are all popular activities on campus. While some students mention the social scene being Greek-dominated, many appreciate not only the balance between academics and extracurricular activities but also the strong alumni network.
